Works on paper include drawings, watercolors, prints, photographs, documents, manuscripts, maps, posters, and many other forms of artwork. Because paper can be affected by light, moisture, acidity, improper mounting, and environmental conditions, the way a piece is framed can have a significant effect on its long-term preservation.

Why Are Works on Paper Vulnerable?

Paper is made from plant-based fibers that naturally change over time. Its stability depends on the type and quality of the fibers, manufacturing process, additives, previous storage conditions, and environment in which the piece is displayed.
