UV-protective glass can substantially reduce one important cause of fading, but no picture framing glass can guarantee that artwork will never fade.

UV-protective glazing should therefore be combined with sensible display conditions rather than treated as permission to expose sensitive artwork to unlimited sunlight.
Even when UV-protective glazing is used, direct sunlight is generally not an ideal location for sensitive artwork.
Sunlight contains both ultraviolet and visible light and can also increase heat at the surface of a framed piece. A frame receiving intense sunlight for several hours each day may experience much greater light exposure than the same piece displayed on an interior wall.
Choosing a more controlled display location can work together with protective glazing to reduce unnecessary exposure.
UV protection and reflection reduction are different glazing characteristics.
Some conservation glazing is primarily selected for its UV-filtering properties while retaining the appearance of conventional clear glass. Premium glazing can combine strong UV protection with advanced anti-reflective coatings.
Museum glass is an example of glazing designed to combine high optical clarity, substantial reflection reduction, and UV protection when both viewing quality and preservation are priorities.
Protective glazing is only one part of preserving artwork inside a frame.
Materials touching or surrounding the artwork can also influence its long-term condition. Mounting methods, matboards, backing materials, adhesives, and the way the artwork is separated from the glazing all need to be considered.
